Your chance to try some Spanish cuisine
If you are planning on heading over to Spain, why not, even if it is just a flying visiting to do your NIE numbers, try out some authentic Spanish cuisine at one of the many amazing restaurants in Alicante. There are lots of hotels available around the port or in the town itself so you can enjoy an overnight stay and see the nightlife of Alicante too.
Of course no trip to Spain would be complete without trying the signature dish of Paella. Bomba rice grown in Valencia is used to make this delicious meal. Generally it will include fish and shellfish, including prawns and mussels but vegetarian varieties are also available. It is usually a lunchtime dish so perhaps once you have finished your appointment at the police station, and have your NIE, would be a good time to head off and find a restaurant to enjoy your paella.
If you don´t want a paella, why not try arroz abanda (rice cooked in fish stock). A very tasty dish with a variety of fish, potatoes, rice, onions, saffron and garlic. Usually accompanied by allioli (garlic mayonnaise)
Tapas make a good choice if you can´t decide what to have. Try patatas bravas (originally from Madrid), some local cheeses, pan, tomate y allioli, olives, chorizo sausage..the list is endless.
We also offer a NIE appointment service in the nearby town of Elche, close to Alicante airport. Elche is home to about 200,000 palm trees and many pomegranate trees. Pomegranates are traditionally a symbol of fertility but they are also known to protect the heart from high cholesterol. One of the best varieties is the Mollar of Elche. It is wonderful juiced but many restaurants in and around Elche will also serve refreshing pomegranate ice-cream as a dessert. Pomegranate seeds are now also popular in Gin and Tonics, something also gaining popularity in Spain!
